Leave No Trace is designed to assist outdoor
enthusiasts with their decisions about how to reduce their impacts when
they hike, camp, picnic, snowshoe, run, bike, hunt, paddle, ride
horses, fish, ski or climb. The program strives to educate all those who
enjoy the outdoors about the nature of their recreational impacts as
well as techniques to prevent and minimize such impacts. Leave No Trace
is best understood as an educational and ethical program, not as a set

Leave No Trace Trainer Course LNT-T11-002Sept 9-11, 2011 Camp Grimes (Hornets Nest)
Mecklenburg County Council will be conducting a Leave No
Trace Trainer Course starting on Friday, Sept 9th, at 7:00 pm (6:30
check in). The
course will conclude on Sunday, Sept 11th, at 11:30 am. The format of
the course will be backpacking. Friday night the participants will
setup camp in at the campsites around the Hornets Nest area at Camp
Grimes and break camp early Saturday
morning and prepare to hit the trail. A good portion of the training
will happen on the trail and be taught by the participants who will be
given specific assignments to prepare for. Saturday night we will
experience camping in a pristine area of Camp Grimes. Sunday we
will
return to the Hornets Nest for final the final sessions. Space is
limited for this course so please register early! Slots will be
filled on a first come first served basis. This course is a REQUIREMENT
for the troop "Leave No Trace Trainer" leadership position. Cost of
the course is $60. If you have any questions about this course or any

return to the Catawba Shelter for final the final sessions. There are

you looking for a fun way to teach youth how to take care of the
natural world? In this free training lead by Leave No Trace's Traveling
Trainers you'll learn hands on methods for educating youth in
environmental awareness and the Leave No Trace principles. PEAK
(Promoting Environmental Awareness in Kids) is the result of a unique
partnership between REI and the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor
Ethics to educate children about the outdoors and responsible use of
shared public lands. The PEAK program is an excellent, easy-to-use
resource for educators and youth participants with limited time. The
program is a great tool for troop leaders, teachers, naturalists and
outdoor lovers. The PEAK pack can be rented for free at REI to teach
your youth group about Leave No Trace. Snacks will be provided at this
